Throughout her life, Marie Sorqvist has engaged in people watching and people are usually prominent in her paintings. She derives her inspiration from human figures and portraits. Her subjects are often depicted with their backs toward the viewer leaving their faces to one’s imagination.
Marie began drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil and has kept paint and brushes close at hand ever since. Although she intended to study art, Marie ended up studying fashion design and textiles in Gothenburg, Sweden. For many years, Marie ran a successful business as a fashion designer and dressmaker in Stockholm, Sweden.
Her art can be found in private homes in Brazil, Canada, Germany, Nepal, Switzerland, Sweden and USA.
She is also part-owner of Nordic Art Society.
Education
Until recently, Marie has been entirely self-taught. For the past couple of years, however, she has attended workshops with artists she admires and whose influence has inspired her to pursue a career as a professional artist.
