Catrine Näsmark
Swedish artist and set designer Catrine Näsmark's work is often characterized by her love of words, details, codes, play and humor. Preferably bigger than reality, "larger than life", as she says. Catrine has a degree in scenography from the Danish School of Design. She has her studio and gallery on Lidingö, Stockholm.
Catrine Näsmark began studying at the art school Basis in 1993, the following year she continued at Nyckelvikskolan, which was then followed by five years of study at the Danish School of Design in Copenhagen, the line for scenography, MA.
She paints people in all its forms. Naked, dressed, in motion or sedentary. Children as well as board professionals. Sports and action motifs are something that Catrine is fascinated by. She has also held courses in portrait painting under the auspices of the National Museum.
Although scenography devoured her earlier days, Catrine soon left stage design to devote herself entirely to painting and portraiture. Her art has been exhibited at Stockholm's Ulvsunda Castle, Bromma Airport, Katarina Church, and art galleries in Stockholm such as Konsthandel Couleur and Galleri Wallmark. Catrine is often commissioned to paint portraits of known and unknown individuals, including the "Most Powerful Woman of the Year" excellent by Business of the Week.
Others who have had their portraits painted by Catrine Näsmark include King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, whose works of art can be seen at the Royal Palace in Stockholm; the anniversary room.
Catrine enjoys experimenting with acrylic, oil, wallpaper, photos, pencils, mosaics and even old toys in her studio, which aims to give them a new life in a whole new context.
The set designer in her still plays with texers, words and toys she finds at a flea market and wishes she could turn fairy tales into reality.
Catrine lives in Stockholm with her love and two boys.
Her major interests besides painting are old cars and motorcycles, which often recur in her painting.
