How does it work?

About Vision

The starting point for this painting is a found image of an unknown girl. There's an expression that says a portrait can convey more than a thousand words. Among all possible subjects, we may be most attentive to what a face expresses. To me, creating a painting is like having a conversation with a stranger. That's why I often initiate my artworks with a face to which I have no prior connection - a stranger I gradually get to know through my brushstrokes. When I paint, I try to listen to what the artwork itself wishes to convey. It's an interaction that evolves throughout the creative process, a dialogue that takes me to places beyond my initial expectations.

Kenneth Pils

After studies at National College of Art in Stockholm and the Royal Art Academy in Stockholm (1995), Kenneth Pils now lives and works in Stockholm. He has made numerous exhibitions in Sweden and Europe and several public art works in Sweden. He has been involved in the artist-run scene in Stockholm. He is one of the co-founders of the interdisciplinary and international art-as-research project "Being in the world" (http://beingintheworld.net).
