Mats Ceder's artistry is lacking obvious messages thereby it enlivens reminiscence as an imaginary reflection in a keen observer's mind. This is the very truth of a “reflective" artist and his paintings have the same nonverbal resonance as my memories: "I have been In those places but where and when I can't tell". They act as an inner journey between different instances, random or sequentially from time to time. Some of his paintings make me recall even specific details which I did not know existed except very deep in my mind. This Is the essence and the mystique aspect of an artist's creativeness: we can always come closer to understanding, even motivation behind the artist's work but not fully explain. That makes me expect to see more of and hopefully even deeper in his future pieces of work, those not painted yet. Of course I have had a marvellous opportunity to discuss with Mats Ceder in person but paradoxically my understanding of him as an individual does not make me more a specialist to explain his story. Every true artist has his or her own mystique and I am not sure if it would mean the same things to me as to the artist himself. There would always be a difference between what is expressed and how it is interpreted by someone else. But undoubtedly these visual aspects and effects contribute to our likes and dislikes: why we experience someone as a great artist while others barely reach us, it is hardly a technical matter even if one could immediately sense the difference between professional and amateur. For me It Is a mystery…one of the very few left intact.
